When I saw at the novel, it’s really not interesting. Because the book is already obsolete, the paper yellow and the font too small. But when I read the epilogue, the story is about the brilliant young doctor who almost forgets that people are more than just bodies. He forgets that people also have hearts and souls. So I tried to read this novel to know about the continuation of this story.

            The main characters of this novel are Jack Beaven (a student in medical school who become a great doctor) and Doctor Tubby Forrester (an unfriendly lecturer who teach Jack Beaven). In this novel also there are some characters, like Audrey Hilton (called Lan Ying, Jack’s girlfriend), Tony Wollason (a student in medical school, Jack’s best friend) Teddy (a child aged 7 years old who has illness in his hand, Jack Beaven’s patient).

            The most interesting part of the story for me is when Jack got some accident while he was driving his car to treat his patient. He got an accident that makes him got some trouble in his brain that makes him unconscious for several day. Audrey, his girlfriend, always accompanied him while he was in hospital until he woke up from his unconsciousness and it’s really romantic.

            The very confuse part when I read this novel is when Jack wanted to be Tubby’s assistant. Tubby is Jack’s anatomy lecturer when he was in medical school. He is an unfriendly lecturer. He ever dishonor Jack in front of their friends when he teach in his class. But why Jack still wants to be his assistant that makes me confuse.

            The part of the story that I dislike most is when Claudia, Audrey’s sister, talk to Jack that actually her sister love him. But Jack didn’t give a response, he just say thank you. I think as a man he have to be gentle, whereas Claudia has inform him about her sister’s feeling and actually Jack also have the same feeling with Audrey. I dislike it because he is too shy to say the fact about his feeling.

            My personal experience that related to this story is when my grandfather was sick in the hospital. The clerk there was unfriendly, they cured for my grandfather without smile. Such as in this story when Jack asked to his patient about his illness. He asked his patient unfriendly and talk to them such as he talked about business.

            I like the end of this story. Because finally Jack have a special relationship with Audrey and because of it, Jack be a good doctor who do his job with his heart and be friendly with his patient.

            The larger issues that raised by the story is about life of Jack Beaven. About his effort to be a doctor until finally he becomes a great doctor. This story also told about Jack life with his girlfriend Audrey.

            My experience while I read this novel is I was very busy, because in that time I also have to prepare about the midterm test of the other subject. But finally with my effort I can finish this novel.
